When Life Happens

February 18, 2013 — 2 Comments

Do you ever have one of those days that it seems like the world has singled you out to pick on? It is as if the heavenly stars are aligned oh so perfectly just to make you have a bad day. You feel like no matter what you say or what you do, life happens to be working against you at every turn.

Maybe the alarm didn’t go off and you were late for work. Maybe you were catching up on finances when the refrigerator takes a trip to that home appliance wasteland of no return. Or maybe you were working on a major project and through some evil technical glitch of the matrix, your work was lost without the possibility of recovery. Whatever it was, the world was cranky and you were its target.

THE CHOICE IS YOURS
If you are nodding your head, then friend, you are in good company. Life has a funny way of dealing us a blow when we least need it. On top of that, it doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t matter if you are Negative Nancy or Positive Pam. When rain falls, it falls on the just and unjust alike.

In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. Matthew 5:45 NLT

So, when life happens and bad things occur, we are all faced with one of two choices:

  • Use it
  • Lose it

Use It
The better option is to take that negative event and use it for something good. You see, sometimes bad things are just going to happen no matter what we do. So instead of allowing that negativity to dictate our steps, we should instead accept it, find a way to use it for our advantage, and grow with it.

3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-5 NLT

What you search for in life, you will always find. This means that if you look for the good in a bad situation, you are surely to find it! It may not always be obvious but that does not mean it isn’t present.

Lose It
Let’s be honest. Life sometimes will leave you scratching your head (sometimes banging it on a wall) and asking, “Why me?!” If we are not careful, we will fault to losing it. What I mean by “it” is our joy, our anger, and even our morals. When that happens, the enemy wins and you lose. Game over, try again next time.

POWER TO OVERCOME
Stop allowing bad events to steal your joy and start using them as opportunities. Use them to show God that no matter what curve ball you are thrown, nothing will steal your smile. That shows Him you are dedicated to living a joyful life and nothing is going to hold you back!

When we let life have control of our happiness, those pitfalls will seek out and destroy our peace and destiny. It will cause us to lose focus on what God has done and it will cloud our thoughts with defeat and anger.

Remember to always stay in faith and live your life to glorify the Lord with every step and breathe you take. Sometimes life happens and it is not fair but through Jesus Christ you have the power to overcome anything created to bring you down! Be empowered today by declaring joy over any problems you are facing and use those negative events for your positive advancement.

Don’t know who first said it…but this brought to my mind one of my favorite quotes.

Don’t tell God how big your storm is, tell your storm how big your God is.

I lean on that many times. So easy to get fixated on the issue and lose focus on the solution…GOD. Many times we have to recalibrate our thoughts and put them back on target.
      Thanks for sharing Eric!
