While sitting at a coffee-house a few years back, I began to think about all the dreams that I have dreamt in my life. Many seemed silly while for some I had to ask myself “What was I thinking???” But there was one that still had a spark in my heart. It was then I started to raise it from my graveyard of dead dreams and see what I could do with it.

We all have this graveyard that we bury old and faded dreams. It is the place we send our dreams when we either A) dream something new, B) trade it in for what we believe is more “realistic”, or C) we fail at it and think it is just not meant to happen. In either of these cases, they fade away into the desolate hopes and desires of our past and most times are never thought of again.
Back when I was in high school, I was given a copy of How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. At the time I was not much of a reader but I could not put this book down! It lit a fire in me like nothing ever had before.
Though the book was meant to teach readers how to handle people and influence their thinking, it actually inspired me to start inspiring others. I was excited about this new dream until I realized that I do not write books and I was terrified of speaking in front of groups. I mean, how can you be an author and speaker without possessing those two main desires, right?
The funny part of this is now I read daily and I also really enjoy speaking and teaching. In a thought, I had the dream before I had the ability. Which actually, is usually the case and reason most people never put action behind it.
The frightening part is the thought of what if I had not revisited those dreams of the past? If not, then I may never had started doing what I love to do today.
You see, sitting at that coffee-house, I realized that encouraging people and inspiring them to be greater really spoke to my heart. I truly believe that if something speaks to you that way, then it is by God’s design and it is His purpose for your existence.
So what did I do next? Well, I read that book again and I haven’t stopped pursuing my new, yet old, dream!
“If you can dream it, you can do it.” – Walt Disney
I share all this with you in hopes that it will inspire you to start thinking about your dreams of present and past. Maybe you are living the dream right now and if so, I applaud you and hope you always push on and live it greatly! However if you are not, then let this be a call to start dreaming again.
Start by asking yourself if you have any dreams in your heart right now. But please don’t stop there. I want you to then take a stroll through your own graveyard of past dreams and see if any still have a spark. If so, spend some time dreaming it up again and just see where it takes you. You may be surprised!
People who dream and do, eventually become. – Jason Hoover (me)
Did you know that successful people are big time dreamers? Yep! They are successful because they had a dream and a vision from start to finish. Think about this…How can you get to your destination if you don’t know what the destination is?
- A vision you hold on to when times are tough and life is low
- Inspiration that keeps you believing and reaching
- Guidance of a life lived on purpose
- Excitement in your heart
- The platform to build a life of value upon
I want you to start dreaming again today. Then, I want you to start doing! Make those desires of your heart become reality. The first step is tough but just DO IT and get it out-of-the-way. It is through those dreams that your life will be truly lived.
Know that God never intended for you to live a life of no vision or no reason. He gave you the ability to dream and I believe He even plants those desires in your heart. Why? Because He designed you to make a difference in this world. YOU have that chance right now and the ability to make it all happen! Start DREAMING and start DOING!
